23 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU EVER WEAR ANOTHER SUIT!
Welcome back to another blog from TME, I’m Emmanuel and today as you read the title, we are dealing with Suit rules.
Suits are unique style pieces brought together to form a formal outfit.
If you are going for a job interview, your office, a fancy restaurant with your girlfriend, or you just want to make a statement or a baller move, A Perfect suit is your go-to.
They have been around for centuries are not planning on leaving anytime soon; They just get better by the century. So, to keep up with the trends, I have narrowed down the modern 21st-century suit rules to these 23, so enjoy.
1. Always wear fitted trousers: You want to make a baller move and you pick up a suit with baggy trousers, you’d look like you got it from your daddy’s wardrobe, and your baller move intentions will be terminated, no, DESTROYED. If you can’t get a new one, but you have one with baggy trousers, give it to a good tailor to adjust it to your size.
2. The jacket should not be baggy on your shoulders: Did you picture wearing a suit with baggy trousers? looked like a clown did ya? Now reverse the roles, Jacket that is baggy around the shoulders (that will surely be extra larger than you) but with a slim fitted pair of trousers. Still look like a clown don’t ya? This has the same effect on you, but the only remedy is to get a new one because only very few tailors know how to tailor a Jacket perfectly or at least close to perfect.
3. Your trousers should sit right at the top of your shoes.
4. Cut all the stitches on the jacket vent pockets of your new suit. Suit jackets come with stitches on their pockets and maybe the buttonholes, it's your duty to carefully cut them carefully with a razor blade.
5. Unfasten all buttons while sitting down: If not done, this makes you uncomfortable, or worse, ruins your suit by ripping out the buttons.
6. Button up to the top button of a shirt when wearing a tie.
7. The last button of your jacket should always be open: The last button on a suit jacket has no use, it is just aesthetically pleasing and as such should not be buttoned.
8. When wearing a light coloured suit, a dark coloured pocket square is advised: vice versa.
9. The tip of your tie should be just between the belt buckle.
10. Your tie colour should be darker than your shirt colour: For example, white shirt; black tie.
11. Your socks MUST always cover your legs, even while sitting down.
12. Your shoe colour should always complement your suit colour: Example, navy blue suit; dark brown shoes.
13. The Jacket should be long enough to cover you trouser zipper and butt.
14. When you wear a waist-coat, it should always reach your waist and just cover your belt: That’s why it’s called a waistcoat. Shocking right?
15. The lowest button of the waistcoat should be unbuttoned.
16.Shirt cuffs should be exposed by half an inch outside the jacket: No need to measure, use your initiatives.
17. Dark suit, light tie: vice versa.
18. When wearing suspenders, DO NOT wear a belt or waist-coat: It just looks stupid.
19. Tie knots should be medium-sized.
20. Wear a plain T-shirt underneath your shirt: This is more comfortable than your singlets or tank tops, and it also absorbs sweat better.
21. Don’t stuff your trouser pockets: Put your phone, money and wallet in your Jacket’s inner pockets.
22. Minimize accessories: Don’t wear a necklace or chain, don’t be Thanos and wear many rings, just two is enough, and please, don’t wear sports wristwatch.
23. Polish your shoes: Clean your shoes a day before you need to wear the suit, or it ruins your whole outfit and steals the show away from your expensive shoes.
