Did you see this title and feel concerned, your heart is in the right place. I'm Emmanuel and this is Teaching Men Everything. TME is back with another blog post titled:
13 WAYS TO SUPPORT YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM AGAINST THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND OTHER INFECTIONS.
We are in times people say are "unprecedented" and have never happened before. As if 2020 couldn't be any worse, we now have the Coronavirus in our midst: and I think I speak for everyone else when I say It's time for the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic to pack it's bags and leave. It has certainly overstayed its welcome. But as much as we want it to go, the stats say otherwise. It is steadily increasing and is eating up the world's population and resources and is not planning on going anywhere soon, at least.
These tips I'm going to give you is not necessarily guaranteeing you will not have the Coronavirus, but it does speed up the performance of your immune system to fight it when you eventually come in contact or get infected by it. if that makes sense, let's get down to business.
The IMMUNE SYSTEM is made up of White Blood Cells and Antibodies that work to fight against diseases, infections and their sorts. Here are tips to help it perform better.
1. Get Enough Sleep: A while back, I talked about how to get the amount of sleep your body needs. (check it out) Not to contradict me, getting the right amount of sleep your body needs is good, but adding a few naps here and there is even better. When you sleep, your immune system produces and releases proteins called cytokines. Increase of this cytokines regulates body immunity, inflammation and hematopoiesis that help tackle infections, diseases and swellings.
2. Stay Hydrated: Drinking 2 cups of water and sips every 15 minutes not only keeps the body fresh, but it also flushes out toxins, optimizes immune functions and maintains kidney, liver and lungs functions which as you should know by now, Coronavirus is a respiratory tract infection. Most importantly, if the virus finds its way into your body, water is known to push the virus down into your stomach acids, a place where the virus can't survive in. Make sure you stay hydrated throughout the day, don't wait to feel dehydrated before you drink water.
3. Exercise & Stay active: Physical activities and exercises flush bacteria out of the lungs and air passages. They also increase the production and circulation of antibodies and the White Blood Cells which detect and fight infections almost immediately. Exercising causes a rise in body temperature which prevents the growth of Coronavirus and other infections and bacteria.
4. Control stress levels: When we are stressing out, this puts tension on the immune system and weakens its ability to fight infections. try as much as possible not to overthink, over worry and stress out your body. Keep believing and telling yourself that all will be alright.
5. Eat more Fruits and Vegetables:Fruits and vegetables come with their own vitamins and natural sugar. Consuming them provides Vitamins A, B1, B2, C and others. Vitamins B12, C and E are proven to increase the production of White Blood Cells and give the immune system functions a boost. Many plant-based foods are also rich in antioxidants which reduces stress levels. Fruits may be expensive, but they are easy to find and enjoy most meals, especially breakfast.
6. Reduce added sugars: For those who don't know what added sugar is, it is artificially made sugar found in soda, chocolate and basically any other sweet edible item that is not plant-based. In the body, there are useful bacteria like bifidobacteria mostly found in the stomach that in their own way, help us fight against other bacteria. Now, the consumption of added sugar attacks them and weakens their ability to fight infections for some couple of hours. It also reduces the body's ability to produces White Blood Cells and weakens the ability of already present WBCs.
7. Take Supplements Wisely: Notice the word 'wisely', here's the reason. If you search now on google, "immune-boosting supplements" hundreds of results will come out. the truth is that not everyone that comes out actually works and is actually useful. I am not here to tell you which one actually works and which does not, if yours works and you are seeing results, fine, but if you are not using at the moment, consult your doctor and carry out thorough research before you purchase. A good supplement contains vitamins B12, C, D, Zinc, Elderberry, Echinacea, Garlic amongst others. this builds a strong effective immune system.
8. Eat essential oils: essential oils like Lavender oil, Lemon oil, Eucalyptus oil and Coconut oil are necessary for the immune system due to their Antibacterial, Antiviral and Antifungal properties. They aid to fight a wide variety of infections, and they also stimulate and support the immune system as well.
9. Reduce alcohol intake: A little shot of tequila here and there doesn't hurt, but binge drinking not only makes you look stupid, but it is also very bad for your health...
- it damages the useful bacteria I mentioned earlier and weakens its ability to fight against diseases
- it destroys the epithelial cells which makes it harder for your body to absorb nutrients
- it alters the balance your body keeps between healthy and unhealthy bacteria and allows harmful bacteria to flow into the blood
- Finally, it damages the functions of the lungs in the respiratory system
Alcohol intake should be reduced especially in this period for the maximum optimization of your immune system.
10. Quit Smoking: What does a stick of cigarette contain? A single stick of cigarette contains grams of Nicotine, Carbon monoxide, Tars, etc. These things cause mucus on the lungs making it subject to cancer and weakens it before its battle with COVID-19. Quitting not only removes you from the path of lungs cancer, but it also strengthens the lungs and immune system against infections.
11. Wash your hands: I cannot overemphasize this, people, wash your hands!! When you wake up, wash your hands, when you go out and come back, wash your hands, before and after eating, wash your hands, when your order gets delivered, wash your hands, basically every time, wash your freaking hands. This washes away any germ or even virus that is yet to enter your body.
12. Wear nose masks: Wear nose masks to not only protect yourself from others but also others from you. Cough, sneeze and even mere talking are ways through which coronavirus can be spread, and a simple nose mask can both protect you and your neighbour, a simple nose mask.
13. Observe Social Distancing: 3 feet distance from your neighbour everywhere, no hugs or handshakes, even distancing your hands from your face must be practised. these are self-explanatory means of general safety against the coronavirus.
These amidst many other steps can be taken to prevent this deadly virus, but these ones are on the checklists of any person who actually wants to support his immune system.
Share these with all your loved ones and
That's it from me for now.
Always remember, "DON'T STRESS, FINESSE."
