5 ESSENTIAL SHOE TYPES ALL MEN SHOULD HAVE.

5 ESSENTIAL SHOE TYPES ALL MEN SHOULD HAVE.
What's up Gentlemen? I'm Emmanuel from 302 MEN, formerly Teaching Men Everything, and welcome to another blog post.

There are three types of people in this world; The one who has about 1000 pairs of shoes and never knows the one to wear, the one who is always indecisive and wastes time and effort when out to get shoes and finally, the one who has a few essential pairs of shoes and knows how to match them with every outfit in his closet.
The people in the third group are very rare so if you find yourself in the first or second group, sit tight for a wild ride because this blog post is for you.

When you are out to build a shoe collection or just get new shoes to replace your worn-out ones, there are just two rules to apply in your quest.

1. Forsake the reigning trends and opt for versatile classics.

2. Spend as much as you can on quality not price.

These rules basically mean you should spend your money on shoes that have stood the test of time and you know are here to stay, shoes that match most clothes in your closet and shoes made with quality products over trendy, expensive, low-quality shoes made famous only because of their brand name.

Based on that theory, I’m here to give you “5 ESSENTIAL SHOE TYPES ALL MEN SHOULD HAVE”.
If that tickles your fancy, vamonos.

1. DRESS SHOES: Shoes like Oxfords, Brogues, Monk straps etc. are your dress shoes. They are your go-to for a black-tie event or similarly formal events. It should in no way be paired on a casual outfit because doing this tarnishes the name it has made for itself, leaving you looking like a joke.

BASIC RULES FOR WEARING A DRESS SHOE:

I. Long socks are for laced-up dress shoes, No-show socks are for dress shoes with no laces.
II. Your shoes should be darker than your trousers.
III. Your shoes should match your belt, socks and a wristwatch strap. (brown shoes, brown accessories)
IV. Use shoe trees when you are not wearing your dress shoe.

2. BOOTS: These are shoe types that cover the feet, ankles and sometimes the calves. They are usually worn in cold seasons, but as of recent can now be used to style casual outfits.
They are your Chelsea boots, Chukka boots, Timberlands, Combat boots and even Rain boots.

BASIC RULES FOR STYLING BOOTS:

I. To create a smart outfit, you can pair Chelsea boots on trousers, a button- shirt and a blazer.
II. If you are feeling rugged, pair Combat boots on a pair of black ripped jeans, a grey shirt and a leather jacket.
III. You can pair Workboots like Timberlands on a pair of slim-fitted dark blue jeans and a long-sleeved shirt when you don’t know what to wear.

3. TRAINERS: These are your typical athletic shoes. They are made specifically for the purpose of performing sporting activities.
The soles made of rubber and pieces of foam pads enclosed within the trainers ensure comfort and absorb shock during athletic activities. Basic examples are Adidas ultra-boosts and New Balance.

BASIC RULES FOR STYLING TRAINERS:

I. Never pair trainers with any formal outfit.
II. Keep them clean, always.
III. Always wear socks.
IV. Sundry after each use.

4. SNEAKERS: My personal favourites, sneakers. These have to be the most versatile shoe types ever made. They can be worn on formal wears, they can be worn as athletic shoes, they are also worn on casual outfits.

BASIC RULES FOR STYLING SNEAKERS:

I. Show some ankle (wear no-show socks)
II. DO NOT buy white sneakers if you are not a clean guy.
III. As versatile as they are, always know when to wear them.
IV. Buy the sneakers that suit your current wardrobe.

5. MOCCASINS: This list cannot be complete without the mention of the one and only Moccasins. Don’t be fooled by the big name, if you do not know what they are, Moccasins can also be called Loafers. The major difference between the two is Moccasins have laces, while Loafers don’t.
Moccasins can elevate a simple button-up and jeans outfit and can also be worn on formal outfits. In general, they are for situations where you want to look smart without having to wear dress shoes.

BASIC RULES FOR WEARING MOCCASINS:

I. Always wear no-show socks.
II. Keep it simple and minimal.
III. They can be paired with shorts.

Even as I have enlightened you on how to keep your shoe collection minimal and effective, Wear what you feel comfortable wearing. If you feel more confident wearing trends, and you can afford them, go for it. Do what makes you feel Comfortable and Confident.

As a reward for sticking with me till the end, I have a bonus for you.

The last two shoe types all Guys should have are:

SLIDES AND SANDALS: These are backless and open-toed shoes that got their name as a result of them being easy to get on and off the feet. They can be worn to stay at home, to run errands and chill at the beach. As basic and as common as they are, they also come with their own rules.

BASIC RULES FOR WEARING SLIDES AND SANDALS:

I. NEVER wear them with socks on, EVER.
II. They can be worn on athleisure and casual outfits.
III. Never wear them to the gym.
IV. Never wear them on formal occasions.
V. Always clean when dirty.

There you have it guys, 5(+1) shoe types all guys should have.
